Planning a birthday party or any other special event can sometimes be overwhelming. The food, the guests, the invitations...
It might seem like there are too many details involved and it is easy to lose track of things. Do you feel like you don’t even know where to start? I hear you and you are not not alone. Follow these easy steps to planning the perfect birthday party and use them as a guide to get things done enjoy the big day!
Number 1
Pick the Party Theme and Location (as early as possible)
It is never too early to decide on a theme and location for your special party and I will tell you why.
Deciding early on a theme (or color scheme) for the party might be one of the smartest things to do as it will help you start picking everything (really everything) else. That means that you can start shopping for decorations taking advantage of sales and looking for unique items to add that special touch to the party. Not only you'll save money, you'll also enjoy the 'no pressure' shopping experience. Deciding on the location is another thing to do as a first step on your list. This is because if your party requires renting a venue, it is now time to check how early in advance your venue gets booked up so you will know when you must decide on the date and put down a deposit.
Number 2
Decide on the Number of Guests and Budget
Many would overlook this step of event planning and this could lead to a lot of frustration.
Deciding on the number of guests is not easy and that is something that will directly reflect on your budget. The first question you need to ask yourself is what kind of party do you want to have. Is it going to be a small intimate event with only the family members and closest friends? Is it going to be a party for your child’s friends only? Is it a big event that includes a lot of people? Getting your guest list ready will help you visualize the kind of event you’re planning and also helps you determine your budget.
Number 3
Pick the Date and Location
There are not many rules when picking the date and location to celebrate someone's birthday. One thing to consider is that other events might be happening around the same date. If the child has friends that have a birthday on the same date, it is important to consider that you might have to talk and make arrangements ahead of time so you’re not having two birthday parties scheduled for the same day so all the other friends can attend.
Number 4
Send out Invitations
There are several options for printed invitations on many websites or even your local printshop, you can also look for a local stationer that can design and print the invitations for you. Whatever option you choose, the invite should set the mood for the party and give your guests an idea of what to expect.
Number 5
Plan the Fun Stuff
What is a birthday party without food and entertainment?
You do not need to make up crazy games or hire professional entertainers. Setting up a set of game cards or a tower of Jenga blocks on a table can be enough to get things started. If you’re planning a kids party, set up a corner or little stations with different toys that the kids can explore and play with. You can use toys your child already has as long as they are ok sharing them with other kids. If you have the space to set up a tent or pillow fort, that can be enough to keep the kids happy for few hours. Make sure your guests will have something to snack on or have lunch/ dinner planned out.
A DIY Birthday party might seem like a lot of work but making decisions ahead of time will help you relax and enjoy the big day!
